Longwood Gardens is an endless playground for photographers! The stars of the summer show are the giant Victoria Water Lilies. The lily pads range from 6-10 feet in diameter and produce gorgeous blooms. They are surrounded by varieties of lotus flowers and are frequently covered with iridescent dragonflies. One could spend hours lost in their beauty, trying to capture them photographically from a variety of angles. But there’s so much more to see! The amazing Dahlia display is an absolute must if you love the beauty of flowers and exploring them photographically. So many varieties and colors-alive with butterflies and bees! Learn to freeze motion of fast moving subjects while capturing the unique character of the flowers.
We will also focus on capturing the beauty of the many fountains at Longwood. Learn to change the feeling of an image by varying your shutter speeds and apertures for greater impact
Instruction will also be given on how to see and work with the light and deal with high contrast scenes, creative composition, the use of filters and Lensbaby lenses and more!
Recommended gear: A DSLR or mirrorless camera, wide angle zoom, circular polarizers and lens hoods for each lens, tripod and cable release, lots of memory capacity and fully charged batteries are all you need. Macro lens, external flash, and small pop up diffusers/reflectors are also useful accessories to bring along. We will work with whatever gear you have and whatever level you are at photographically to ensure you leave with amazing images.
Cost of workshop does not include admission to gardens. A maximum of 7 participants enables greater hands-on instruction. In the event of inclement weather, we will photograph inside the conservatory.
Longwood Gardens is located at 1001 Longwood Rd, Kennett Square, PA

I love going to Longwood treks with Val! I’ve been there several times now and each time I feel like I walk away with different images! The water lilies are some of my favorite to photograph…with any luck you can get insects and water drops in photos. I highly recommend this trek!
