Oh, The Places We’ll Go…The Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum

Winter is a rough time in southeast PA for us landscape photographers. We don’t get much in the way of snow-although we have had a few minor rounds of it in the past few weeks. To keep myself from going stir crazy and losing my photographic inspiration, I often head to one of the many unique automotive museums we have in the area. We have a bunch, and one that I have visited several times and truly enjoy is the Simeone Foundation Museum located near the Philadelphia airport.

Info from the website:

“The Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum is one of the world’s greatest collections of racing sports cars. Through our theme, “The Spirit of Competition”, we celebrate the history and evolution of these magnificent machines.

Assembled over 50 years by Dr. Frederick Simeone, the Museum contains over 75 historically significant cars including Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Bugatti, Mercedes, Jaguar, Bentley, Porsche, Aston Martin, Corvette, Ford, and more.”

The collection is a gem, and having signs sharing stories and details about individual models on display, makes appreciating the collection that much more inspiring. Most cars are displayed in a surrounding that gives detail to the history of the automobile, and also make for unique backdrops for capturing images photographically.

I very much appreciate browsing and learning more about a period in history I have no prior knowledge or understanding of. Beyond that, I enjoy wandering about the museum creating images that inspire me, and hopefully convey the beauty of the collection that is housed here. If you have never visited the Simeone Foundation Museum, I highly recommend you schedule a date to visit for yourself. For a next level experience consider joining them for one of their many Demo Days that take place throughout the year, “where you can see, hear and smell history come to life through these magnificent machines. Demo Day events are held on Saturdays throughout the year…” For more information about the museum and events, visit their website.

If you like the images you see here, and would be interested in joining a small group of photo enthusiasts learning to capture creative images of their own, consider joining me on our upcoming photo trek I’ll be leading here, taking place Saturday February 3rd. You can find all the details on the Home page of this website, or under the “Events” section. Please note: displays are subject to change, and the images presented below may not be exactly what you find on your personal visit.
