Come join us for a fun day photographing and exploring the Elmwood Park Zoo. Elmwood was established in 1924 and is celebrating 95 years this year! The zoo also has attained the elite status of one of only 230 institutions accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Elmwood maintains a collection of over 100 species from all over the world. Highlights of the collection include giraffes, zebras, bald and golden eagles, jaguars and red pandas- and a whole bunch more.

I am calling this a Photo Walk as opposed to Photo Trek, because I have not had the opportunity to visit here before. Smaller and more intimate than the Philadelphia zoo, it is also less expensive and easier to get around. Everyone I have spoken to loves it. Note: the images you see here are of animals that are part of Elmwood Zoo, but were taken by me at other zoos throughout the country(just so there’s no confusion).

Instruction will be given on how to compose and best expose your images for this type of environment. Special emphasis will be given on choosing the best settings to photograph through glass and wire fences. We will also cover how to get great images even in low light in reptile houses. Instruction will also be given on how to best portray the character of your subject. No special gear is needed, but a long telephoto lens will be most helpful for animals that are further away. A macro lens or one with close-focusing capabilities will be useful when photographing animals in the reptile house. A detailed email will be sent to all registered participants to help prepare for the day. The zoo is open from 10-5

Elmwood Zoo is located at 1661 Harding Blvd. in Norristown, PA

We will meet at the main entrance to the zoo just before 10am and photograph together until at least 1:30. The entrance fee is $17.95 for non-members, and is the responsibility of each participant.

Another great place for a photo walk. Good tips on shooting through fences & glass. Always a fun group!
