Fundamentals of Photography 5 part series

Description

I recently taught 5 classes on different fundamentals of photography. These are core topics that need to be fully understood by everyone who is serious about photography. Each of these lessons build on the last one. Although there is a slight review of the previous lesson’s material to start each session, it is not a complete review. Skipping any may limit full understanding of the topic. Class 1-“Understanding Exposure” is the key building block of this series. Make sure you start with this one and go through them in order!

  1. “Understanding Exposure” – In the first part of this series we discuss all things exposure- what it is, what affects it, what the Exposure Triangle is and how to know what settings to use for different shooting situations. We also spend time talking about “correct exposure” vs “creatively correct exposure”. This is where creativity starts!
  2. “Understanding the Histogram and How the Camera Meters Your Exposures” – Getting well-exposed images should not be an accident or every now and then thing, but be a series of simple steps and settings to use every time you make an image. Participants will gain a greater understanding of how their camera’s meter actually  works, what types of subject and lighting conditions “fool” the meter, and how to get a perfect exposure nearly every time. We spend a lot of time demystifying the camera’s histogram.
  3. “Using Aperture Creatively” – In this lesson we dive into all things Aperture-arguably the most important component of the Exposure Triangle. We discuss how aperture affects depth of field and the aesthetic mood of the image. We also discuss best choices for different shooting situations, limitations and considerations, and how to use Aperture creatively in your images.
  4. “Using Shutter Speed Creatively” – Shutter Speed is another key component of the Exposure Triangle. In this lesson we take the mystery out of when to use Shutter Priority over Aperture Priority, how shutter speed conveys motion, and how to use it creatively in your images
  5. “Using Full Manual Exposure Mode” – In this lesson we discuss when, why and how to set your camera in full manual exposure mode for complete control of your exposures. We discuss times when your camera’s meter fails and is unable to give you a correct exposure, and how to easily overcome those challenging situations. Examples of those times would be night photography, shooting stage lit scenes, high contrast lighting, light painting and more.

Each of these lessons can be purchased individually for $13. See the separate product for each lesson

After purchasing this series, you will be contacted by email with the link to the presentation and any notes that went along with the presentation.
