SUMMARY:Birds and Bugs Photo Walk - Full Day of Photography At the Jersey Shore
DESCRIPTION:For those who love bird photography\, there are few places on the east coast that provide more opportunities to photograph a large variety of species with so little effort. The Rookery at the Ocean City Welcome Center is a fantastic spot for photographing birds in flight\, nesting birds\, and possibly some babies\, too! Species normally found there include great egrets\, black-crowned night herons\, glossy ibis\, white ibis and more. \nWe will begin early in the morning at the rookery\, and spend several hours photographing the birds from a variety of vantage points. When the group has had their fill\, we will take a break and grab a bite to eat. After that\, we will head to a local garden to photograph insects! \nThis will be a full day of fun and photography for all levels of photographers. We can work with whatever gear you have\, but to best capture the birds up close\, a minimum of 300mm lens is suggested. Telephoto lenses that extend to 400 or 600mm are ideal. If you do not have a long telephoto lens\, there are a variety of places that rent them for the day or weekend. More details will be given a few weeks prior to the event. A wide angle to mid-range lens would also work well for closer wildlife at the zoo. \nFull details will be given several weeks prior to the event. This will include lodging suggestions for those that may be traveling from several hours away. If interested in staying overnight\, you should secure a hotel as soon as possible \nA pre-trek class will take place via Zoom prior to the event to go through all the details for the day. We will review images of what you can expect to see and shoot\, and instruction on all techniques to use throughout the day. Participants should be comfortable with their camera and how to change settings such as aperture\, shutter speeds\, ISO\, focus points\, etc. \nFeedback and instruction on how to best capture birds in flight\, and the macro world of insect photography will be given throughout the entirety of the day. \nWorkshop fee includes an image review following the workshop. Participants will share up to 3 images which we will review together. You will receive helpful feedback on your images\, including suggestions you could make to improve the image\, as well as editing tips to help bring out the best in your images. Registration fee also includes admission to our private Facebook group\, where you will become part of a friendly and fun community of photo enthusiasts\, be able to share images from the day\, and interact with not only other participants from this workshop\, but those who have participated in past workshops\, as well. It is a fantastic way to stay in touch and continue the learning long beyond the event itself. \nEvent is weather-permitting. In case of rain\, we will reschedule to the following day\, Sunday June 6th or a later date. Same time \nTransportation to Ocean City\, meals and lodging are not included. We will carpool as we travel throughout the day. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Spring Beauty @ Hershey Gardens Photo Trek
DESCRIPTION:Hershey Gardens is one of those “off the radar” places for many photographers\, but that’s certainly not for lack of beauty and photographic opportunities. Visiting during many different seasons\, there is always a quiet beauty that awaits your wandering. \nI absolutely love photographing in the spring\, and Hershey offers a ton of gorgeous plantings-including rows and rows of tulips\, that are perfect for quite a few hours of photography. The focus of this workshop will been on capturing the delicate beauty of the flowers. This is most easily done with a macro lens\, but can certainly be accomplished with other lenses\, as well. Hands-on instruction will be given on how to create stunning flower portraits\, focusing in on the soft and unique details of each flower. \nThere will also be plenty of opportunities to make amazing images of larger plantings and scenes as we wander pathways lined with beautiful bushes and trees in bloom. An added bonus will be to spend some time in the butterfly house\, capturing the delicate beauty of a variety of these lovely creatures. \nOf course\, another added bonus is the close proximity to Chocolate World-which for you chocolate lovers\, is right across the street! 😁 \nIf you are looking to learn macro photography\, or improve your current skill level\, then this workshop is for you! This is also for anyone looking for new opportunities to capture beautiful scenes in a very scenic environment. Open to all skill levels. Minimal gear required. We can work with whatever gear you have. A detailed list of suggested gear-such as a sturdy tripod that can go low to the ground\, circular polarizers and lens hoods for each lens\, and close up accessories if you do not have a macro lens are recommended. \nA pre-trek class will be held about a week prior to the workshop via Zoom to go through all the details of the trip\, and lots of shooting tips and techniques to get you ready. We will then meet at the gardens by opening time\, ready to roll! After the event\, there will be an image review\, also via Zoom\, where we will discuss tips to improve your images. Join us for this unique learning opportunity during the beauty of spring. \nParticipants kept to a small amount to allow for more one on one instruction. Don’t wait to register! A minimum number of participants is required to run the event. \nWorkshop will take place during a light rain. If severe weather is forecast\, we will reschedule to the following Saturday

SUMMARY:Flemings Pumpkin Run Full day of Photo Fun!!!
DESCRIPTION:Nestled on the edge of the Pine Barrens in New Jersey\, is an awesome junk yard full of vintage automobiles\, memorabilia\, an old diner\, dinosaurs and more! Sadly\, Flemings has been closed to photographers and workshops due to past destruction of property. I had the privilege of spending a few hours touring the place while in the area-and immediately fell in love with the rows and rows and acres and acres of rusty\, abandoned – yet very photogenic things. \n\n\n\nThankfully\, Flemings puts on a wonderful event that grows year after year-and this is our opportunity to to wander the place and photograph all this salvage yard holds. The Flemings Pumpkin Run is an all day event\, running from 8-4pm. Harry Fleming\, the owner\, describes the event as “a gathering of enthusiasts from all aspects of mechanical machinery. The vehicles range from\, but not limited to\, Antiques\, Classics\, Street Rods\, Lead Sleds\, Rat Rods\, Muscle cars\, Motorcycles\, Military\, and Vintage Race cars. Hit & Miss Engines\, Steam and Gas powered tractors\, Farm Equipment\, and Semis can be seen. Other attractions include a restored diner & sawmill\, replica gas & train station\, along with two vintage race car museums.” Sounds like an awesome event to me! \n\n\n\nSetting this up as a Photo Walk\, which means that I will be photographing as well as assisting participants as we wander the grounds in search of creative images. A presentation will be given via Zoom prior to the event to give a brief tour of the salvage yard and what you can expect. SUMMARY:Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles
DESCRIPTION:The Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles houses dozens of automobiles\, trucks\, and motorcycles that were manufactured right here in Pennsylvania while the industry was still in its infancy. Prior to that time\, the region produced multitudes of horse-drawn vehicles\, of which many examples can be found at the Museum. \nWe’ll take a photographic tour through both the auto museum\, and the recently opened Carriage Museum. \n  \nIf you are looking for a fun way to spend several hours learning to creatively photograph a huge variety of historic cars\, trucks\, bicycles\, carriages\, wagons and more-then this trek is for you! A highlight will be the old Sunoco station and Fegley’s old-time diner. \nYou will learn how to photograph in low light situations\, use fill and bounce flash to supplement the lighting\, and shoot bracketed images that can later be combined into a single High Dynamic Range image. We will also cover how to use a variety of different lenses and techniques to create unique images you will be thrilled to show off and hang on your wall! \n  \nThis trek is for photographers of all skill levels. Hands-on instruction will be given throughout the workshop. A tripod is a necessity. Beyond that\, no special gear is required. Polarizer and lens hoods for each lens used is recommended. You’ll need plenty of space on your memory cards for all the creative images you’ll be capturing! \nThere will be a brief pre-trek class via zoom on February 3rd\, to go over final details and review images of what can be expected and tons of tips to get you started. An email will be sent to participants approximately one week prior to the event with all the details. \nAdmission to the museum is included in the price!  There is a minimum number of participants needed to run this trek. Participants will meet at the museum \nThe Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles is located at 85 S Walnut St\, Boyertown\, PA \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:9/11 Tribute In Lights Photo Walk
DESCRIPTION:The Tribute in Light is an art installation created in remembrance of the September 11 attacks. It consists of 88 vertical searchlights arranged in two columns of light to represent the Twin Towers. It stands six blocks south of the World Trade Center on top of the Battery Parking Garage in New York City. Tribute in Light began as a temporary commemoration of the attacks in early 2002\, but it became an annual event\, currently produced on September 11 by the Municipal Art Society of New York. \n\n\n\nOn clear nights\, the lights can be seen from over 60 miles (97 km) away\, visible in all of New York City and most of suburban Northern New Jersey and Long Island.  Each year\, about 30 technicians\, electricians\, and stagehands work for about ten days to install the lights. During a testing phase of several days\, observers in Brooklyn\, Staten Island\, New Jersey\, and uptown Manhattan help make sure that the beams are adjusted accurately. The lights shine from dusk to dawn. \n\n\n\nMy first experience of seeing the Tribute lights shining over Manhattan was in 2020. It was awe-inspiring and very moving. Most of us remember where we were when we first heard about the attacks\, and we sat speechless\, glued to the television for days and weeks as rescue efforts took place around the clock. Never forget. What a wonderful way to honor all those who lost their lives and those who worked so hard to rescue them-than to witness the Tribute In Light in person. \n\n\n\nIf you love capturing the beauty of cityscapes at night-or would love to learn\, then join us for this breathtaking photographic event. \n\n\n\nWe will photograph the skyline from several locations in New Jersey. We will likely also visit the Teardrop Memorial-which is also a 9/11 tribute nearby. The group will meet by 6pm to be on location to photograph the New York skyline during the golden hours before during and after sunset. We will continue to shoot through blue hour into dark. Specific details for where we meet and photograph from will be sent to participants after registration. \n\n\n\nInstruction will be shared throughout the event on how to expose for tricky lighting conditions-especially as it gets dark\, when camera meters are no longer able to give accurate exposure readings. Instruction will also be given on composition\, creative long exposures\, and how best to convey such a moving and meaningful scene. Event will be great for beginners as well as more advanced enthusiasts. Participants should come with a decent understanding of their camera gear\, and be comfortable with changing basic settings-especially in darker environments. An informational email\, as well as Zoom meeting will be held prior to the Photo Walk. \n\n\n\nRegistration will be limited and will likely fill fast. Don’t wait to sign up to join us for this inaugural event!
