SUMMARY:Longwood Christmas Photo Trek
DESCRIPTION:Longwood Gardens is spectacular in any season\, but it is transformed into a magical place during the holiday season. With more than 400\,000 twinkling lights strung on nearly 40 miles of wire\, this is a photographer’s paradise\, and it has become an annual photo trek favorite. Join us as we make amazing images worthy of creating your own holiday cards and gifts! \nWe will meet at 4pm to ensure we are inside before the worst of the evening traffic\, and to be set up and in place as the sun sets and the magic begins. We will continue photographing during the “Blue Hour”\, which allows for more dramatic images. We will photograph the amazing light displays outside throughout the grounds\, until the need for hot chocolate takes over. We will then take a short break indoors to warm back up\, let our cameras begin acclimating to the warmer indoor temperatures\, review our images\, then head over to the conservatory to capture the beauty and glow on the inside\, as time allows. \nTripods are not allowed inside at this time\, so this will be a great time to get comfortable with photographing at high ISOs and perfect your hand-holding skills in low light. \nThis workshop is for beginners and more advanced photo enthusiasts. No special gear is required beyond a DSLR\, camera strap and tripod(for outside). A Star filter would be helpful for creative affects of the lights. Fast Lenses\, with apertures such as f/2.8 or 1.8 will be a huge benefit in the conservatory. \nInstruction will be given on shooting in full manual exposure\, how to properly meter and photograph in low light-both outdoors and indoors\, lens choice and why it matters; creative composition; HDR or High Dynamic Range Photography; and more! \nThis event is being scheduled on a week night to avoid the large weekend crowds. You should plan on arriving at least one half hour prior to workshop start time to allow for traffic and parking. Please plan your schedules accordingly. \nAdmission to Longwood is NOT included\, as most attendees either are-or choose to become members of the gardens. More details to follow several weeks prior to the event. \nUpon registration you should immediately go online and reserve a timed ticket. A minimum of participants is needed to run this event. In case of hazardous weather\, the trek will take place on Thursday December 15\, 2022. The workshop will take place in light rain or snow.

SUMMARY:Pennhurst Asylum Photo Trek-Multiple Buildings!! -
DESCRIPTION:Pennhurst was an institution for mentally and physically disabled individuals of Southeastern Pennsylvania. Constructed and opened in 1908 as a state school for the mentally and physically disabled\, Pennhurst’s property was vast\, covering 120 acres. Created to house over 10\,000 patients\, Pennhurst was one of the largest institutions of its kind in Pennsylvania. It was devoted strictly to the care\, treatment and education of the disabled. Originally named Pennhurst Home for the Feeble Minded and Epileptic\, it finally was just called Pennhurst State School. \nAfter a decade of controversy\, it closed on December 9\, 1987. Pennhurst fell into complete ruin as the complex was shut down. Buildings were abandoned as they were\, with patient’s clothes and belongings strewn about. Furniture\, cabinets and medical equipment were left to decay as if someone had just got up and walked out the front door. This is the place that will eventually resurrect into one of the most studied properties in the ghost hunter media\, and will become an amazing haunted attraction. The history is as fascinating as it is sad. \nJoin us as we photographically explore this remarkable and erie place! We will have access to the Mayflower building and the newly reopened Devon building! 3 buildings are now open to tour and photograph\, but due to time constraints\, we will focus on these two\, as they offer the most photographic opportunities!!! . \nA brief history will be given at the start of the tour\, then we will be free to photographically explore. The group will work through the two different buildings together\, but will have more than enough room so as not to interfere with other participant’s images. \nAn overview and instruction will be given on creative composition\, exposure\, flash\, HDR photography\, light painting and more\, enabling you to be fully prepared and able to come away with creative images that truly capture the essence of the place. \nA mandatory pre-trek Zoom class will take place a few days prior to the event to answer any questions\, get everyone inspired\, acquainted and comfortable with recommended settings\, gear and what to expect throughout the day. \nA full list of details will be emailed several weeks prior to the event. This workshop is suitable for all levels of photo enthusiasts\, but being familiar with the settings on your camera is highly recommended. You will be shooting in many areas with low light levels\, therefore it is important to be familiar with the operations of your camera. Anyone who is concerned about their level of understanding of their gear should consider scheduling a private lesson with Valerie prior to the event. \nPhysically\, you need to be able to be on your feet and move up and down several flights of stairs for up to five hours. The buildings are not heated or air conditioned\, and are in a state of arrested decay. You will be walking through areas of dirt\, dust\, and some potential hazards\, etc. Liability waivers will need to be signed for both Pennhurst and Valerie A Hoffman Photography. \nWorkshop fee includes instruction before and during the workshop\, tour and access to the buildings and grounds-as permitted by Pennhurst. Also included is an image review via zoom following the trek\, and access to our private FB group\, where you will be able to see what others in the group photographed\, share your own and receive feedback on images. A great way to continue the learning process! Alumni from the April trek should contact me directly for a discounted rate. \nPennhurst is located at: 250 Commonwealth Dr\, Spring City\, PA 19475

SUMMARY:Flemings Pumpkin Run Full day of Photo Fun!!!
DESCRIPTION:Nestled on the edge of the Pine Barrens in New Jersey\, is an awesome junk yard full of vintage automobiles\, memorabilia\, an old diner\, dinosaurs and more! Sadly\, Flemings has been closed to photographers and workshops due to past destruction of property. I had the privilege of spending a few hours touring the place while in the area-and immediately fell in love with the rows and rows and acres and acres of rusty\, abandoned – yet very photogenic things. \n\n\n\nThankfully\, Flemings puts on a wonderful event that grows year after year-and this is our opportunity to to wander the place and photograph all this salvage yard holds. The Flemings Pumpkin Run is an all day event\, running from 8-4pm. Harry Fleming\, the owner\, describes the event as “a gathering of enthusiasts from all aspects of mechanical machinery. The vehicles range from\, but not limited to\, Antiques\, Classics\, Street Rods\, Lead Sleds\, Rat Rods\, Muscle cars\, Motorcycles\, Military\, and Vintage Race cars. Hit & Miss Engines\, Steam and Gas powered tractors\, Farm Equipment\, and Semis can be seen. Other attractions include a restored diner & sawmill\, replica gas & train station\, along with two vintage race car museums.” Sounds like an awesome event to me! \n\n\n\nSetting this up as a Photo Walk\, which means that I will be photographing as well as assisting participants as we wander the grounds in search of creative images. A presentation will be given via Zoom prior to the event to give a brief tour of the salvage yard and what you can expect. We will discuss gear choice\, and creative composition\, exposure settings and more! You can wander around as part of the group\, or move about on your own\, and meet up with the group throughout the day. Vendors will be there to keep us nourished\, although\, the lines can be quite long. \n\n\n\n\n\nTransportation\, lodging\, food and entrance fee of approximately $10 not included in photo walk price \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Abandoned JW Cooper School Photo Trek-SOLD OUT!
DESCRIPTION:The J.W. Cooper school\, located in the coal mining town of Shenandoah\, PA\, was built in 1918. In the 1920s and 1930s\, Shenandoah had a population of approximately 30\,000 residents. Before opening as the Shenandoah High School\, it was commandeered during the Spanish flu epidemic and used as a temporary hospital and morgue\, since the local hospital was overrun by the large number of victims. In May of 1919\, the building was dedicated as the “new Shenandoah High School. It was later renamed the J.W. Cooper High School after the School’s first principal. The school later became an elementary school prior to its closing in 1994. There have been several owners since that time\, with little work happening to restore the structure. In the late 2000s\, a local business owner stepped in to try to save this historic building that was once the home to tens of thousands of students. The new owner immediately got to work removing tons of trash and making the structure safe to enter. His goal is to use the building as a mixed use facility for local businesses\, and revive the theatre to once again hold performances. A portion of the registration fee will go towards helping in the restoration effort. \n\n\n\nThe Cooper school is currently in a state of arrested decay. The gymnasium\, with hoops and basketballs and old wooden floor is a neat place to photograph\, as are the many school rooms with memorabilia scattered about. The decaying pool area is an interesting place to explore and photograph\, as are the many side rooms that contain theatre props\, desks\, books and more. The auditorium is by far the coolest place to creatively explore\, with the stage and most of the seats still in tact. The room takes on an eerie green glow from the light bouncing about from the unlit ceiling and walls. There is also a balcony to give even more opportunities for a truly unique abandoned photography adventure. \n\n\n\nThe school has 4 floors and is not handicap accessible. You will be wandering through areas covered in various states of dirt and debris. Caution will need to be taken as you explore. We will have 4 hours to wander the property. A brief tour will be given at the start\, which will also detail any areas that may be unsafe or off limits. Participants must adhere to any and all instructions given by the owner. \n\n\n\nThis will be a 3 part workshop. Part one will be an informational Zoom class on either October 5th. The trek itself will run from 10am-2pm. Following will be an hour long editing class held via Zoom. More details will be given through email a few weeks prior to the event. \n\n\n\nA minimum number of participants is needed to run this event. If for some reason we would need to cancel\, money will be put towards a future event. \n\n\n\nTransportation to JW Cooper School is not included. We will meet at the school. \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Abandoned Historic Pump House In Northern New Jersey
DESCRIPTION:A peculiar pump house rests in a discrete setting along the Delaware River in Phillipsburg\, New Jersey.\n\nIn 1885\, the People’s Water Company incorporated and designed a system that pumped water from wells and into a raised reservoir. The pump house in Phillipsburg was the source of this People’s Water Company system.\nThe pump house’s reinforced concrete housing holds a remarkable 51-foot tall water pumping apparatus\, also known as Big Alice. Big Alice is a 300-horse power\, vertical\, triple-expansion\, coal-fired\, steam-powered engine manufactured by Allis Chalmers of Milwaukee\, Wisconsin. At the peak of pump house operations\, Big Alice pushed 6 million gallons of water each day from its wells to a reservoir on nearby Marble Mountain as it served the Phillipsburg community.\nThe pumping station was operational until 1969\, when a new well system of submerged electric pumps went operational…\n\n\nThe pump house is now under the caring hands of the Friends of the New Jersey Transportation Heritage Center. The heritage center also utilizes the pump house as a storage facility \, and what is stored within the walls is an unexpected wealth of fascinating artifacts\, especially to an urban explorer’s eye. Inside and outside the pump house are mostly New Jersey transportation-related signs\, lampposts\, spare parts\, rail sections\, and vehicles\, retained for a future Heritage Center museum.\n\n\nWhile the pump house stood for decades like a silent reminder of Phillipsburg’s industrial past\, in 2018\, the Friends of the New Jersey Transportation Heritage Center completed the restoration of the steam-powered engine. The triple-expansion steam engine now asserts operational status and is the largest working standing steam engine in North America. (history and description of the pump house was taken from Cindy Vasko’s book\, “Abandoned Northern New Jersey”\, Homage To Lost Dreams. Used with the author’s permission. Follow her on Instagram:@cindyvasko_photography. I highly recommend all of her many abandoned series of books!)\n\n\n\n\nJoin me as we make a trip back in time\, with private access to photographically explore this amazing pump house and property. 4 hours will fly by as you find unique compositions of Big Alice\, and all of the amazing artifacts scattered about. There is also an abandoned bus\, and house on the property that are open to be carefully explored. Registration number will be kept small to allow the opportunity for participants to get images without other people in their shots.\n\n\nInstruction will be given during a pre-trek class(via Zoom)\, and throughout the extent of the workshop\,  on composition\, exposure\, overcoming the lighting challenges\, gear and more. An image review of participant images will follow shortly after the Trek.\nRegistration all includes participation in a private Facebook group where you will be able to see other participant’s images and continue the learning process in a fun and friendly community.\n\nComplete details will be email prior to the event

SUMMARY:Gruber Wagon Works Photo Trek
DESCRIPTION:The Gruber Wagon Works survives as one of the most complete examples of an integrated rural manufactory of its kind in the nation. Erected in 1882 by Franklin H. Gruber\, the wagon works evolved from a single craftsman shop\, having a variety of specialized hand tools\, into a family-operated business which employed up to 20 men who utilized mass-production methods. Unlike a modern assembly process\, wagon parts were transported back and forth between various rooms in order to complete a segment of the work. \nWagon wheels were constructed in the bench shop\, and wooden parts of the wagon were made from patterns in the wood shop. Wheels were “tired” and wagons were “ironed” and assembled in the blacksmith shop. The distinctive striping and scrollwork were applied by hand in the paint shop. \nDuring the winter of 1976-77\, the Gruber Wagon Works was moved by the Army Corps of Engineers from its original location near Mt. Pleasant. In 1978\, the Gruber Wagon Works was designated as a National Historical Landmark by the United States Government\, commemorating its historic significance as an industry from a bygone era of American craftsman. \nJoin us for a fantastic photography workshop in this amazing place! We will have private access to the Wagon Works for 4 hours! Come early and explore the other buildings which make up the Berks Heritage Center. This includes the Wertz’s Covered Bridge\, a hidden cemetery with 100 year old tombstones\, the very colorful Der Distelfink statue and more! \nYou’ll have fun photographing and exploring two full floors of vintage wagons and all the tools and textiles that went along with working on them. There is a great collection of vintage wheels\, tools\, paint cans\, work benches and much more! You’ll learn to create more compelling compositions\, work with contrasty light\, use exposure bracketing to create a series of images that can later be merged into HDR or Hi Dynamic Range images. Some models offer this feature in-camera \, so we can work on gaining a better understanding of that feature\, as well. This is a great opportunity to learn in a fun and friendly environment! \nTicket fee includes a pre-trek Zoom class\, private access to the Wagon Works\, instruction throughout the workshop\, follow up and access to our private Facebook group. \nWorkshop is great for all levels of photo enthusiasts! An email will be sent prior to the event with details on the pre-trek Zoom class\, what to bring and what to expect. This is a smaller venue\, so registration will be kept to a smaller number. So don’t wait-register today!

SUMMARY:Pennhurst Asylum Photo Trek - SOLD OUT! Contact us for possible opening
We will have access to the Mayflower building AND\, the newly reopened Devon building! As time allows\, we will also be taken on a guided tour of the safer parts of the grounds.

SUMMARY:Airplane and Auto Graveyard
DESCRIPTION:For those that love the creative challenge and fun of capturing unique images of rusty things-this is the place for you! According to Jersey’s Best Magazine\, “this quirky junkyard is a part-picking’ paradise\, giving vintage machines new life as movie props. Scenes from the 80s hit movie Eddie and the Cruisers were filmed here\, although the remnants from the film have long since been buried. Planes and helicopters tower atop buses\, while old car carcasses rest among sprouting shrubs.” Aircraft are stacked throughout the 12 acre property\, including an amazing array of their pieces and parts.  \n\n\n\nJoin me as we photographically explore an airplane and automotive graveyard in the Pine Barrens area of New Jersey. In cooperation with Richard Lewis Photography\, our group will have the place all to ourselves! We will begin the adventure with a Zoom presentation from Richard\, with photos and info to get you excited and ready to go. When we arrive\, we will be taken on a tour throughout the grounds\, so you know where all the cool stuff is. You will also have a map to help you find your way around. Instruction will be provided before and throughout the trek on how to best compose creative compositions out of the chaos. Tips on exposure\, focusing\, lens choice\, and creative options such as shooting artistic HDR images will be given. You can use any gear you have. Lenses in the range of super wide-angle to 200mm-even macro lenses will work great here. There are so many colors\, shapes\, and textures to play with-you will be amazed! \n\n\n\nThe workshop fee covers your entrance fee\, the pre-trek class\, hands-on instruction during the workshop and a post processing workshop that will take place via Zoom soon after the event. All participants will be invited to a private Facebook group for workshop attendees to share images and stories. \n\n\n\nLiability releases will need to be signed by all participants before entering the grounds. SUMMARY:9/11 Tribute In Lights Photo Walk
DESCRIPTION:The Tribute in Light is an art installation created in remembrance of the September 11 attacks. It consists of 88 vertical searchlights arranged in two columns of light to represent the Twin Towers. It stands six blocks south of the World Trade Center on top of the Battery Parking Garage in New York City. Tribute in Light began as a temporary commemoration of the attacks in early 2002\, but it became an annual event\, currently produced on September 11 by the Municipal Art Society of New York. \n\n\n\nOn clear nights\, the lights can be seen from over 60 miles (97 km) away\, visible in all of New York City and most of suburban Northern New Jersey and Long Island.  Each year\, about 30 technicians\, electricians\, and stagehands work for about ten days to install the lights. During a testing phase of several days\, observers in Brooklyn\, Staten Island\, New Jersey\, and uptown Manhattan help make sure that the beams are adjusted accurately. The lights shine from dusk to dawn. \n\n\n\nMy first experience of seeing the Tribute lights shining over Manhattan was in 2020. It was awe-inspiring and very moving. Most of us remember where we were when we first heard about the attacks\, and we sat speechless\, glued to the television for days and weeks as rescue efforts took place around the clock. Never forget. What a wonderful way to honor all those who lost their lives and those who worked so hard to rescue them-than to witness the Tribute In Light in person. \n\n\n\nIf you love capturing the beauty of cityscapes at night-or would love to learn\, then join us for this breathtaking photographic event. \n\n\n\nWe will photograph the skyline from several locations in New Jersey. We will likely also visit the Teardrop Memorial-which is also a 9/11 tribute nearby. The group will meet by 6pm to be on location to photograph the New York skyline during the golden hours before during and after sunset. We will continue to shoot through blue hour into dark. Specific details for where we meet and photograph from will be sent to participants after registration. \n\n\n\nInstruction will be shared throughout the event on how to expose for tricky lighting conditions-especially as it gets dark\, when camera meters are no longer able to give accurate exposure readings. Instruction will also be given on composition\, creative long exposures\, and how best to convey such a moving and meaningful scene. Event will be great for beginners as well as more advanced enthusiasts. Participants should come with a decent understanding of their camera gear\, and be comfortable with changing basic settings-especially in darker environments. An informational email\, as well as Zoom meeting will be held prior to the Photo Walk. \n\n\n\nRegistration will be limited and will likely fill fast. Don’t wait to sign up to join us for this inaugural event!

DESCRIPTION:Have you ever stood beneath a starry sky and viewed the amazing array of celestial bodies\, such as the Milky Way\, a comet\, a meteor shower and even the moon? Do you dream of being able to capture images of the night skies\, or did you look at photos and think\, I could never do that? Maybe you’ve even tried and come away with images that were less than pleasing? Maybe you’ve just been afraid to try? Or maybe\, you just had no idea how to go about getting started. \n\n\n\nIf that’s you\, then join us for a learning opportunity designed just for you!  \n\n\n\nWe will begin with an approximately two hour (online) class that will go through everything you need to know to get started in astrophotography. We will discuss gear choices and the difference they can make\, when to go out in search of specific subjects in the sky\, how to locate them\, and how to easily capture them to create amazing images of your own. We will specifically discuss how to photograph the moon\, stars\, star trails\, and the Milky Way. Detailed information will be given on composition\, exposure settings\, dealing with the problem of digital noise\, focusing to get sharp stars and more! \n\n\n\nWe will also discuss how to prepare for success using useful apps\, such as Clear Skies\, Star Walk\, Photo Pills and The Photographers Ephemeris. Though this will not be a class on all that these apps can do\, you will gain an understanding of the simple tools that will help you to determine what day and what time of day to go out\, what to avoid\, how to decide where to set up to shoot\, and more. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nPre-trek class details: Due to time constraints and challenging schedules\, the class will be pre-recorded and be available to watch beginning Friday August 6th. A live follow-up Zoom mtg will take place on Tuesday August 10\, at 7pm\, for participants to ask any questions they may have prior to the photo trek. In order to help participants best prepare\, the class is mandatory for attending the actual photo trek\, and will help minimize confusion on location in the dark. The Zoom meeting is not mandatory\, but is offered to any questions from the class. Feel free to contact me with any questions\, comments or concerns.  \n\n\n\nThe location shoot will take place at French Creek State Park\, and will begin at 7:30pm and last to approximately 11pm. This will provide the opportunity to photograph the sunset and then allow plenty of time to get set up for photographing the skies. French Creek is one of the darkest areas in southeast PA\, and offers the ability to safely and conveniently gather as a group for a great learning opportunity. Exact location and meeting spot will be given upon registration. \n\n\n\nDate for workshop is set to coincide with the peak of the Perseids Meteor show \n\n\n\nThe photo trek will be held on Saturday August 14\, 2021 from 7:30-11pm\, weather-permitting. In case of rain or extreme cloudiness\, the trek will be rescheduled to Saturday August 20th\, same place and time.  \n\n\n\nPlease note special protective measures that will be in place throughout the in-person trek. \n\n\n\nUpdated Terms & Conditions – Valerie A Hoffman Photography (June 2020) \n\n\n\nYour safety and well-being are of the utmost importance to me. As we begin to navigate the reopening of business in the midst of the COVID19 pandemic\, the following updated policies are being put in place to protect the health and wellbeing of all workshop attendees\, as well as those who we will come in contact with during events. \n\n\n\nI will be following and adhering to state and CDC mandates going forward until we are clear of the threat of spreading the virus. \n\n\n\nThat being said\, here is what you need to know and comply with: \n\n\n\nAnyone who is sick with COVID like symptoms or has a fever over 100 degrees must not attend the event. Amount paid may be put towards a future workshop\, or can be refunded in full if notice is given in advance. Suggest checking your temperature BEFORE leaving home.Face Masks – Not currently mandated but are encouraged whenever you are in close (6 foot) proximity of other participants. When you are apart from others\, you may remove the mask.Workshop participants will be limited to a smaller than usual numberIndoor classes will also be limited in attendance based on the venue\, so participants can be seated the appropriate distance apart\n\n\n\n*Please note that this is a fluid situation and may change based on governmental directives\, CDC recommendations and legal advisement \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

SUMMARY:Pennhurst Asylum Photo Trek
DESCRIPTION:Pennhurst was an institution for the mentally and physically disabled individuals of Southeastern Pennsylvania. After a decade of controversy\, it closed on December 9\, 1987.  \n\n\n\nPennhurst fell into complete ruin as the complex was shut down. Buildings were abandoned as they were\, with patient’s clothes and belonging strewn about. Furniture\, cabinets and medical equipment were left to decay as if someone had just got up and walked out the front door. This is the place that will eventually resurrect into one of the most studied properties in the ghost hunter media\, and will become an amazing haunted attraction. Join us as we photographically explore this remarkable and eerie place! \n\n\n\nWe will have access to the Mayflower building and several tunnels\, as well as touring the grounds(with guides). A brief history will be given at the start of the tour\, then we will be free to photograph in specific areas at our leisure. Instruction will be given throughout the workshop on creative composition\, exposure\, flash\, HDR photography\, light painting and more! This will enable you to truly capture the essence of the place. \n\n\n\nA full list of details will be emailed several weeks prior to the event. This workshop is suitable for all levels of photo enthusiasts\, but being familiar with the settings on your camera is highly recommended. You will be shooting in very low light conditions\, so a sturdy tripod is a must. Physically\, you need to be able to be on your feet and move up and down several flights of stairs for up to four hours. The buildings are not heated or air conditioned\, and are in a state of arrested decay. Liability waivers will need to be signed for both Pennhurst and Valerie A Hoffman Photography. \n\n\n\nWorkshop fee includes Zoom informational instruction prior to the event\, tour and access to the building and grounds-as permitted by Pennhurst\, and an editing class after the trek. The pre-trek class will cover details of the area\, recommended gear\, how to properly expose for creative images\, creative composition\, light painting and more. The post-trek editing class will cover basic and creative edits in AdobeLightroom Classic\, and how to edit your bracketed images into cool HDR images using Photomatix Pro. This software is simple to use and gives you the ability to create artistic images with ease. If you do not own this software\, a trial version can be downloaded for free\, and a discount code will be given during the class for those interested in purchasing it.

SUMMARY:Landscape Photography Photo Trek
DESCRIPTION:Usually at this time of year\, we have a great macro photography event at Longwood Gardens during their annual Orchid Extravaganza. This year the Orchid Event did not take place for a variety of reasons due to the on-going pandemic. In addition\, the new “No Tripods Indoors COVID Policy” would make a macro photography event that much more challenging-if not impossible. BUT\, I’m really tired of the cold\, gray days of winter\, and am ready to focus on spring! I know many of you are right there with me\, so… we’re mixing it up a little. Instead of focusing on the intimate tiny details of flowers\, we will instead focus on the bigger picture-the amazing overall beauty of the gardens\, capturing the grand landscape. INDOORS. In the warmth\, surrounded by the beauty of spring flowers. \n\n\n\nInstruction will be given on how to best capture beautiful images that include drama and depth. We will discuss the impact aperture choice and depth of field have on your images\, how and where to focus within the scene\, creative composition\, controlling exposure-especially in harsh lighting situations\, using filters for greater impact and color depth\, and so much more. You won’t want to miss this new opportunity! \n\n\n\nDue to COVID policies and out of an abundance of caution\, the number of participants will be limited. Also\, in order to help facilitate the learning process while social distancing\, there will be a pre-trek class held on Zoom\, approximately one week prior to the event. During the class we will go through recommended gear and how to properly use it to enhance your images. We will also review a variety of images to help inspire and get your creative juices flowing\, while teaching important techniques on lens choice\, composition\, exposure\, depth of field and more. Several creative techniques will also be demonstrated\, such as creating great bokeh backgrounds\, in camera multiple exposures\, zoom bursts\, shoot-thrus\, exposure bracketing\, and more-all without the use of a tripod! This class will be recorded and available to if class date does not coincide with your schedule. \n\n\n\nThis trek will be great for beginners as well as more advanced photo enthusiasts. A prior understanding of your camera will be helpful\, as this will not be a specific lesson on any one camera but on appropriate settings which all cameras that are able to be set manually will have. \n\n\n\nSince having Timed Tickets IN ADVANCE is the only way to gain access to the gardens\, and due to the limited amount of spots available on this workshop\, it is highly recommended that you sign up as soon as possible in order to get your ticket at the time the group will be entering\, and to reserve your spot.
